Uwadashi

In this form the cut provides either an offensive or defensive movement. The cut begins with the turning of the blade in a counter clockwise manner so that the blade of the Katana is facing down. The swordsman then takes a step forward while drawing the sword in a downward and circular motion effectivelt pushing the adversary backward with the tip of the blade. Make sure that you do not drop your head forward when drawn down the sword and inadvertently giving your opponent an attach target.

Once successfully pushing the adversary backward the blade is then rotated in a counter clockwise motion so that the basic overhead cut may be performed. The overhead cut may be completed either in position or by taking a step forward. The variation used depends on the positioning of the adversary. If he is close then no additional step is required and the cut may be executed in place.Finish the technique by completing your preferred method for replacing your sword.
